We’ve got the songs, now lets get them out there!

  
   
Week One of Soundwaves was incredible – what a talented and hardworking bunch! We’ve created bands who are monsters at marketing themselves online and who have written and recorded beautiful music. We’re overwhelmingly proud of everything that has been achieved! So… what next?

As we’re developing the skills for 21st century musicians, we want to show them they can market their music themselves. We talked them through marketing their bands online last week and they took to it like ducks to water, some of them have more interaction on Twitter and Facebook than we do! So this week we will cover the next steps. Sending the songs to radio stations and making and releasing a music video!

Musicians create top quality music videos all the time by themselves, its another great opportunity to be creative and bring your song to life! So we’re bringing in video experts, as well as musicians who have made DIY videos themselves to talk them through how to make something high quality and exciting with the things that surround you. The smart phones and tablets in the their bags will become the cameras. The lack of budget will help them think of creative and clever shots. The reasonably priced iMovie will be used for editing and Boom! Music videos! 

We’re also going to be talking to them about the various ways to actually make money in music. Royalties, performance credits, expectations and negotiations for live show fees. How to look out for people who want to rip you off. How to look out for people who want to help you. Because as a musician you need to know how to get yourself paid!

  It’s been amazing to watch the creative relationships within the young people flourish. During the breaks they have been grouping up, jamming and writing more songs. We want to give them the opportunity to develop those songs and the skills to record demos themselves even more. So we’re having a pop-up studio available for use, with a couple of our producers around to help them build on those new skills. Alongside all of this , we will be working on big group peieces, continuing to improvise  and make music together.

So all in all, an exciting and busy week ahead at Soundwaves HQ! At the end of this week you’ll be able to hear the amazing music created, and watch the music videos to boot. We can’t wait!
