The Raras Release New Single ‘Day Into Night’

Soundwaves-114The Raras – the harmony filled, laid back, jazzy group with their single ‘Day Into Night’ making you dream of blissfully lazy sunny days! We caught up with Affraic Brophy (fiddle/voice) Amy Clarke (voice/keyboard) Sinead Doherty-Heape (voice/percussion) Rory McLaughlin (guitar) and Ronan McGeehin (drums) to chat The Raras experience so far, and how it feels to release ‘Day Into Night’

You met at the Soundwaves project in Letterkenny. How has the first two weeks gone? Was it what you expected?

Actually, it wasn’t what I expected at all, It was much better than expected. The first two weeks were so much fun. You wrote this song in 3 days, after just meeting each other!

Did you find it hard to gel ideas or was it an exciting opportunity to write with people you just met?

It wasn’t even that difficult, we had the melody done within the first day and the lyrics the second. It was basically the way we put our ideas together made it much easier and they fitted so perfectly.

Your song is so beautiful, laid back and catchy! How did you go about writing it?

We had all agreed it was about our futures, time and growing up. We put what we felt into the song which made it easier.

Is the style similar to music you would all listen to?

Funny you should ask, I didn’t listen to that type of music before until writing the sing. It’s now one of my favourite genres!

You’re obviously having so much fun in your video, What was your favourite part about shooting it?

That’s hard, everything about it was amazing. It was so easy to make, as we were just having fun and being ourselves.

How does it feel to see your song have a video and be released so quickly after writing it? What’s been your favourite part of the process?

I never thought we could do it, and most people would be like ‘hm I wish I could write a song and make a music video in such short time.” And with help, we did it and it was just so fun. My favourite part was the editing. It was a big laugh looking over things we had filmed.

You sing about ‘All our futures’ in the song. What do The Raras see for their future, and their band members?

I think we hope to stay together and become big, we’re all very similar and our music ideas match, and I see us making great songs.
